No. 1. Mix old and new
Using some contemporary light fittings in a period setting or vice versa adds depth and a touch of eclecticism to an interior, avoiding the latter to become a tad too themed, contrite or manufactured.
No. 2. Be bold and original in small spaces
Taking risks in your choice of light fittings is a way to add interest and an element of surprise in narrow corridors, stairs and WC’s where furnishing options are very limited.
It can also be a conversation starter with guests!
No. 3. Use wall lights instead of picture lights
Hanging artwork below wall lights can generate a more relaxed and casual feel to an interior and is subtly original.
No. 4. Have some oversized table lamps with pleated fabric shades
This works in either a period or contemporary scheme and is particularly effective in a dark corner of a room, night or day.
It adds colour, texture and softness as well as contributing to make a scheme feel grounded along with some other oversized items.
No. 5. Use various types of lights at different heights
In addition to using a dimmer switch and candles, this creates sophisticated pools of pleasing and atmospheric indirect light, making a room feel more spacious in the evening and casting a flattering glow on people.
