Island Stories | Episode 5 – Alan Marriott

  • Island Life

Spence Willard are proud to support Island Stories,
bringing you the unique stories of those that live
on the Isle of Wight

This week on the podcast we meet the editor of the Isle of Wight County Press – who’s worked on the paper for a massive 37 years – not surprisingly then, he tells us the newspaper is ‘in his blood’. We talk about the Island’s big news stories, how much has changed here during his tenure and what big Island news stories he’s keeping an eye on for the future.

Alan arrived from the North of England, fell in love with an Island girl and has raised three children here – two still living and working on the Isle of Wight. He’s passionate about the County Press and says he doesn’t have any plans to retire just yet.

Finally on the podcast we always ask the same quickfire 5 questions about the Island.

So here are Alan Marriott’s 5 Island things:

1.Favourite place to eat or grab a coffee?

Blacksmiths Arms, West Wight

2.Best place for a walk, swim or meditation?
Compton Bay

3.Favourite Island activity?
Playing for Island Bakeries Cricket Club

4.Which Island charity is closest to your heart?
Mountbatten Hospice

5.What do you love most about this island of ours?
The Island community

Don’t forget to subscribe and tune-in on Wednesday for our next Island Story!

Each and every one of us has a unique Island story, what is yours?
Uncovering the characters and personalities of those who’ve made the Isle of Wight – home.
